As part of Active Schools Week, we went on a walk around the village. Our 5th class buddies joined us!! We had so much fun!!
We had so much fun during Active Schools weeks.
On Tuesday we had our race day. We took part in the Wheelbarrow race, spud and spoon, hurdle race, balloon between your legs, crawl race, three legged race, sprints and many more. Big Thank You to Ms Crehan and the Active Schools Committee for making it an awesome day!!! We read the story Giraffe's Can't Dance by Giles Andreae. It is a great story about a giraffe who thinks that he can't dance. All the other jungle animals make fun of him but then Gerald meets a very helpful cricket. We like Gerald so much that we painted our own giraffe pictures and watched some real giraffes in San Diego zoo. We learned lots of new facts about them - ask us and you will see that we are giraffe crazy! Here is a link to the story on YouTube if you would like to hear it again! Every Wednesday and Thursday we have literacy stations in our class. Mr. Lawlor and Ms. Staunton come to help our teacher Ms. Timmons and we work in our groups. We have 5 stations and we all have a turn at each station. We have a reading station, letter formation table, sentence building, sentence writing and initial sounds station. We have been working so hard that we can now make and write our own sentences. This week we are reading 'Dan's Ship' with Mr. Lawlor. We are sounding out all the words by ourselves and getting better at our reading every day. We like making our own sentences using some of the words that we know. It's hard work but we love it and always look forward to the other teacher coming to our classroom. We like to show off all our knowledge and impress them.
We love reading in Junior Infants so were very excited about dressing up for World Book Day. It was hard to choose our favourite character! We had lots of princesses, superheros, a Denis the Menace, a tiger, a fire fighter and lots more. We had some D.E.A. R (Drop Everything And Read) time and we visited the Book Fair in the hall. We visited the local library with out buddies from 5th class. They read us stories and we designed book covers of our favourite books. Another busy week! We undertook a maths trail with our 5th class buddies around our school. We had to look for different shapes and colours throughout the school. It was so much fun!!!! |
