Fifth class pupils are out helping to transform the garden every lunchtime. Unfortunately the weather has not been kind to us there year, and we have our fingers crossed for a sunny June! If only our flowers and vegetables were as hardy as the weeds!
Despite it being June the wind and the rain will not let up, so our gardeners worked on and even managed to laugh and smile through it all! Today we replanted sunflowers and radishes and hung some fat balls for the birds. The insects have voted our hotel accommodation as 5 star - 5th class are busy voting on a name and it will be announced later this week. Tomorrow evening we are expecting a new addition to the garden - Sammy the scarecrow! Remember those children from 1st and 2nd class who want to plant flowers in wellies must bring in their wellies by this Thursday at the latest.
Hard at work! You may have heard a few screams coming from the school garden at lunchtime - giant spiders appeared in window boxes and old flower pots. Luckily one person remained calm...well done Christopher Bradley! Thank-you to Mark O'Connor Crash Repairs! We have limited space for planting this year so have planted potatoes, garlic, wild garlic and a variety of herbs in old tyres. Mr Hennelly will be glad to know the tyres were donated by Mark O'Connor, Evelyn's Grandad, so we did not need to take any tyres from his BMW!
What will we call our bug hotel? March 2015 - Planting Time!!! First class were busy planting sunflowers on a cold and windy morning. I wonder who will grow the tallest sunflower this year? Thank-you Miss Crehan! Thank-you Miss Crehan, the rhubarb travelled well and is thriving in it's new home!
We've entered our school in the 'Pride of Place' gardening competition. Watch our garden transform over the next few weeks. We would be very grateful if any parents wish to lend a hand or even make a bird box or two!
