We listened to Andrew Lloyd Webber's musical interpretation of the 'Phantom of the Opera' written by Gaston Leroux (a French novelist). The phantom of the opera, Erik, was a man who had been ill-treated his entire life. He had an accident when he was younger which resulted in his face being severely damaged. He wore a mask to hide his face as people were cruel and often taunted him about the way he looked. However, he was exceptionally talented in the area of music and this led to him teaching a beautiful soprano how to sing. Unfortunately he was always ashamed of how he looked and wouldn't show Christine (the beautiful soprano) his face. Eventually she saw his face without the mask. She didn't taunt him like everyone else but instead, she accepted him for who he was.
Inspired by this story, we made our own masks. We studied World War II in history and we each completed a project on it. Most of us created our projects using PowerPoint.
We do additional work when we are finished our assigned work to earn bonus points. When we have enough bonus points we get a prize as well as a homework pass. Sudoku, word searches, puzzles, malebog colouring pictures, drawing pictures, speaking as Gaeilge and being kind and helpful to other children and teachers earns us bonus points. Here are some of our pictures that we drew to earn bonus points :)
We are all partaking in the Friend's for Life programme this year.
This is the contract that we drew up and signed. 6th Class have been working really hard on some poems. The theme of their poetry was 'Time Travel'. Have a read!!!
