FLOAT/SINK EXPERIMENT
IN OUR CLASS WE CARRIED OUT AN EXPERIMENT ON A NUMBER OF OBJECTS. WE USED THE SKILLS OF PREDICTION, INVESTIGATION AND OBSERVATION.IT WAS A VERY INTERESTING EXPERIMENT. WE LEARNED THAT OBJECTS FLOAT OR SINK DEPENDS ON THEIR DENSITY. DENSITY IS HOW HEAVY AN OBJECT IS FOR ITS SIZE. FOR EXAMPLE AN ITEM WILL FLOAT IF IT'S LIGHT FOR ITS SIZE E.G. A LOG AN ITEM WILL SINK IF IT'S HEAVY FOR ITS SIZE E.G. A PAPERCLIP HERE ARE OUR CLASS RESULTS ORANGE PEEL - FLOATS ORANGE SEGMENT - SINKS ORANGE - SINKS BANANA SKIN - SINKS BANANA - FLOATS STRAW - FLOATS COIN- SINKS CORK - FLOATS PAPER CLIP - SINKS PENCIL - FLOATS In room 15 we learned all about 2D shapes in our environment. We went on a maths trail to identify 2D shapes within our school. We found a lot of circles, rectangles and squares around the school.
We made our very own fruit kebabs in room 15. They were delicious. Try make one it is fun. Here is our simple recipe:
Fruits: pineapple, apples, strawberries, raspberry, grapes. chocolate sauce. Method: 1. Cut up all the fruits. Be careful when cutting maybe ask an adult to help!! 2. Get a skewer and pierce a whole in the centre of each fruit. 3. When skewer is full sprinkle chocolate sauce over the fruits. 4. Relax and enjoy your fruit kebab. Hope you enjoy our fruit kebabs!!!! The children from Ms. O'Sullivan's class performed their Christmas play called 'The Nativity'. It was a great day and all the children really had fun . A big thanks to our drama teacher Ms. Hand for all your help with our performance. Here are a few pictures of our extraordinary cast!!
We planted 4 hyacinth bulbs. We placed 2 bulbs in the press and we place the other two bulbs on the window ledge. These pictures are taken at 9 weeks. We observed that the bulbs in the press are yellow and the bulbs in the windows are green. The yellow bulbs have a second sprout growing. We can't wait for the bulbs to bloom.
We learned different ways to record surveys for example pictogram, block chart and tally. Today we recorded the traffic going by the school using a method called tally. We really enjoyed it!!
