The sporting action has commenced here in St. Seachnall’s as both our boys’ and girls’ Gaelic teams have begun their respective Meath Cumann na mBunscol campaigns and our hurling team has began the defence of their Fingal League title won in Parnell Park last year. A big word of thanks to all the teachers who have given up their time so far to ensure the teams are well prepared.
Boys’ Gaelic Boys’ training began on Thursday 4th September and will continue every Thursday until the Meath Cumann na mBunscol campaign ends. The addition of new rules meant there was an extra bit of preparation to ensure all players were fully versed on them. The first of these games with the new rules took place last week when we played Lismullen N.S. in Dunshaughlin GAA Grounds. Unfortunately, the result did not go our way but the effort by the team and subs must be commended. Numbers at training has remained strong since and hopes were high heading into our second match against Realt na Mara N.S. Donnycarney last Tuesday. All panel members were given plenty of playing time as the opposing school offered to play two matches simultaneously. Victories in both games ensured we remain in the hunt for a place in the quarter finals. Next up is another away match against St. Patrick’s N.S. Stamullen this Tuesday coming. Hurling Having had a successful year of reaching two hurling finals last year, the interest in hurling has remained strong as the first training session began before school last Monday morning. Many boys and girls who were involved last year on the panel are still in St. Seachnall’s N.S. and have been joined by a number of third class pupils. The presence and support of Ettie Philip from Drumree GAA at training and games will once again greatly benefit the preparations this year. The team’s opening game against Scoil an tSeachtar Laoch Ballymun took place last Wednesday and in an evenly contested match, there was nothing to separate the two teams at half time. Playing against the wind in the second half, St. Seachnalls battled bravely and can consider themselves very unlucky to lose out by just 2 points in the end. Their second match is a must win game against Scoil an Duinninigh this Wednesday in Dunshaughlin. Best of luck to all involved. We are delighted to welcome Stephen, our new Music Generation teacher. Stephen is teaching ukulele to Rang 3 every Wednesday for the year. The children are really enjoying the lessons and are making great progress already.
We were delighted to attend the official opening of the new 3x3 basketball court in the park. The project, delivered by Meath Local Sports Partnership (Meath LSP) with funding from the Participation Nation Outdoor Fund, provides a permanent outdoor space that will host programmes, training sessions and events while remaining freely accessible for the public.
We are delighted to formally welcome our new junior infants to St. Seachnall's N.S., Ms. Maguire's class, Ms. O' Dowd's class and Ms. Graham's class. The children have all settled in really well. We remind infant parents to please send back remaining HSE forms on Monday. We kindly ask all infant parents to wait outside the fence in the morning from Monday. The children will go home at 12 noon next week as per timetable below.
