Thank you to all parents and students for joining us on our Halloween Walk to school this morning. There was a great atmosphere in the village. The children from Senior Infants - 6th all attended assembly today. We watched highlights from the hurling final, watched a video about the Christmas Shoebox appeal, congratulated our mini-scientist winners and announced our new Student Council President and Vice President. Our school orchestra performed the Kerry Polka and Roddy McCorley. The children all sang their Halloween songs. We wish everyone in our school community an enjoyable midterm break.
Congratulations to Rang 5 on their mini scientist projects. The standard of the projects was very high and the judges were very impressed. The runners up are Philip, Tom and Oliver, 'The Battle of Bacteria' and the winning project is by Lena, 'The School Meal Programme'. Lena will now go on to represent our school in the regional finals. Thank you to all parents in Rang 5 for attending the exhibition. All children from Junior Infants - 6th class voted in our Student Council Election. We wish to congratulate Luke, Fiona, Odhran, Grace and Daniel for campaigning for the positions over the last few days. Our new President is Odhran Hurry and our Vice President is Fiona Traynor.
On Monday 20th October, St. Seachnall's N.S. competed in the Meath Badminton Primary Schools County Qualifier event in Claremont Stadium, Navan. The competition acts as a qualifier for the Leinster Primary Schools finals event. Our boys team came third just missing out on qualifying for the leinster finals. Our girls came 6th and played really well. It was our first time competing in badminton - well done to both teams. Our Student Council Elections will take place on Friday 24th October - same day as the Presidential elections. Best of luck to our 5 candidates. The Say Yes to Languages module aims to give pupils and teachers a taste of what it means to integrate additional languages alongside English and Irish in the primary classroom. This year, Ms. Jordan will teach French to all children in 5th and 6th class. 5th class have already started their lessons.
Thank you to PJ Hegarty Construction, who have generously offered to sponsor a free STEAM/Engineering programme for our three 4th classes. The programme includes five lessons and a final project. Ms. Weldon's class started Lesson 1 - introduction to Engineering - building paper towers using paper and sticky tape. We are looking forward to the project over the coming weeks. Today all 3 sixth classes visited the local fire station in Dunshaughlin. Each class was given a tour of the station by the local fire fighters and were allowed to use some of the fire equipment. A big thank you to Fionnan and the staff in the fire station who facilitated the visit. Thank you to Tennis Ireland for funding a Tennis Taster with tennis coach, Darren Mc Comiskey for Rang 2, 3 & Rang 4.
