Seachnalls in Meath cumann na bunscol leagues
Meath schools football officially began in 1981 and Dunshaughlin NS, as the school was known as then, were the inaugural winners of the boys Division Two. Further Division Two titles were captured by boys team from Dunshaughlin NS in 1986, 1987, 1990 and 1991. Due to an increase in the size of school since 2000, teams were entered into Division One. It was the girls' team of 2006 who were the first to win a title in the top tier of Meath schools football. The 2006 team captained by Laura Murray defeated St. Mary’s N.S. Ashbourne in the final. A second title was captured after the girls’ team of 2012 beat Dunboyne S.P.S. in the final.
The boys first Division One title came in 2015 when Cian Edwards led the school to victory over Dunboyne SPS in the Meath Centre of Excellence in Dunganny. Sinead Cooke and Molly O'Connor captained the Seachnall's girls team to victory over St. Oliver Plunkett's N.S. Navan in Páirc Tailteann in the 2018 Division One girls' decider. A momentous week in November 2019 saw St. Seachnall's do the double. First up was the girls who defeated Dunboyne SPS in their final. Cousins Grace and Caitlin Summerville received the cup as Seachnall's won 2 in a row. Less than a week later the boys team made a superb comeback in the second half to beat Duleek NS in their final. Joyous scenes followed as joint captains Harry Lynch and Ciaran Sheridan received the Division One Shield from Cumann na mBunscol commitee member Frank Reidy. |
